“Transition arrangements are very effective because of the excellent relationship with primary schools” Ofsted
The move from Primary School to Secondary School can provide many new experiences for students, new subjects, lots of new teachers and the opportunity to make new friends. At Hummersknott, working closely with our many partner primary schools, we work hard to make the transition as smooth and as anxiety free as possible.
Before your son or daughter arrives at Hummersknott, he/she will have had many opportunities to visit the school and meet with their new teachers. This includes:
- An Open Evening for Year 6 students and their parents
- Visits from our staff to teach Year 6 classes
- Visits from our College Managers and Teaching Assistants
- A visit during the summer term from the Assistant Principal (Mrs Rayner) and the Individual
Needs Co-ordinator to find out as much information as possible about our new students. The information collected at these meetings is then used to place students in mixed ability tutor groups and plan students’ work.
In the Summer Term, parents receive an induction pack giving information about visits, uniform, equipment required etc. On either 4 or 5 July 2017 (depending on the College they are going into) parents and children will be invited to the school to meet with the relevant College staff.
On Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 June 2017, the students are invited to Hummersknott to spend the three days with us. They meet their Form Mentor and College Manager and sample some lessons. In the first half term we hold a “New Parents Evening” to explain our assessment system, parent reports and how you can help your child’s education.
