At 11 am on 11 November, Hummersknott Academy fell silent for 2 minutes to remember the dead of previous conflicts.
Nicky Jackson Ayre, looking extremely smart in his RAF Air Cadet uniform played the Last Post on the bugle. Nicky, who is in year 11, was supported by fellow cadet Ben Adams, also from year 11.
They have been members of the RAF Air Cadets for 3 years and meet at the TA Centre in the town on Mondays and Thursdays. Both students hope to join the RAF after A levels.
The students recently competed in a North Region competition at RAF Leeming, where Ben came first in the solo side drum class and Nicky came second in the solo bugle class. These were remarkable achievements as Nicky has only been playing the bugle for 1 year and Ben the side drum for two years. This coming weekend, they will travel to RAF Cranwell to compete in the National competition. We wish them both the best of luck in the forthcoming competition and their chosen careers.
