In the recent Annual Darlington Schools' Swimming Gala, in which seven schools compete, Hummersknott Academy, for the second year running, were the overall winners.
Our boys' team were good enough to cope with having two disqualifications and still managed a convincing first place. In the girls' competition Carmel were the favourites but Hummersknott pushed them all of the way and finished only 3 points behind our rivals.
There were some great swims from the whole team, but special mentions must go to Harriet Rogers winning 25m fly open age, Jack Hurworth winning open age 100m front crawl, Oliver Lill winning open age 75m individual medley and Ryan Pepper winning 25m fly open age. Also a special mention must be given to our divers Alex Greaves and Emily Lester for competing in the open diving competition, both pushed the winners very closely.
Hummersknott did especially well in the 100th Corporation Cup where the 8 fastest male and female swimmers in Darlington compete. Harriet Rogers won the girls event and was closely followed by Emilia Jones and Molly Mooney. Competing for the boys we had Jack Hurworth, Oliver Lill, Jacob Wilson and Rowan Carr, all of whom performed very well.
A big thank you to all of the swimmers who took part and helped bring home the trophy once again. Hopefully, we can achieve a hat- trick of wins next year!
