The weekend of the 14/15 April saw a group of year 10 and 11 students embark on their Duke of Edinburgh silver practice expedition.
On Friday evening the students arrived at Carrs Farm where they camped overnight. Unfortunately due the rain of the previous week, mud graced every surface! After a restless night the students eagerly started their 22km trek to Leekworth. The walk took almost 9 1/2 hours, much of it uphill! The journey took its toll but the students energy soon returned once the oasis of the campsite was spotted! After a well-earned refuel and rest the students were up early and ready to head home. With breakfast cooked and tents packed the final walk to Barnard Castle was underway. A much easier route was followed most of it along the disused railway path (a welcome relief from the open moorland and boggy paths from the previous day). Two nights of camping and 38 km walked - an exceptional achievement for all of the students involved.
