I am immensely proud to be Principal of Hummersknott Academy and Executive Principal of the Hummersknott Academy Trust. I believe this school is a great place to learn, have new experiences, be stimulated and challenged, thrive and develop as an individual and as a member of a community. We strive to provide the best educational provision to be found anywhere.
In pursuit of this goal we undertake to deliver an education that not only equips young people to succeed academically but also helps develop them as young people who ultimately leave us with the confidence, knowledge, skills and awareness to be able to participate fully in 21st century society both domestically and abroad.
We do this by placing the child at the heart of all that we do. Every child is unique and one size does not fit all. We are proud to have a curriculum and a school which gives entitlement to its learners, is adaptable to their needs and aspirations. We offer high quality learning experiences, giving all children access to new languages and chances to explore other cultures. We offer an abundance of extra-curricular activities and opportunities for all to develop personal leadership skills, work with and support others in the school and the wider community.
Our curriculum is broad and extensive. Key Stage 3 is laden with experiences from the Arts to Technology, from Drama to Computing and from Sport to Modern Foreign Languages with core subjects in between! Key Stage 3 not only provides fundamental knowledge, skills and understanding that children need to pursue qualifications, but develops the knowledge they will take with them for future life. We hope they come home and tell you about the things that they have found out!
Key Stage 4 is an option based curriculum with a traditional academic core including languages for all and enhanced by a wealth of choices in Technology subjects, the performing and creative arts, humanities and Physical Education. In addition to subjects taught at both Key Stages, all students follow a taught Life Skills, programme throughout their 5 years with us, including work on their own health and wellbeing, their career choices for the future, and their role in society beyond school.
Our core values of responsibility, respect and care are there for all to see. We believe that a safe, happy child is one that can reach their potential and achieve their goals in life. Our pastoral organisation is centred around your child’s College and the key personnel within each area. We foster an environment where students can feel safe and focus on learning. We have the highest aspirations for ourselves and others. This means seeking to attain the highest standards of behaviour as well as pursuing academic excellence. By working to these values all our young people can make a positive contribution and thrive.
At Hummersknott our attainment is consistently above the national average and progress measures continue to rise annually. Whilst this is, of course, extremely important to us, our focus is also on your child’s ability to progress in their next steps and to succeed wherever they may go. The education, care, guidance and support that we provide consistently ensures very high rates of progression to further education, training, apprenticeship or employment at post 16, as well as to Higher Education and training beyond that. It is rare that a student leaves us without knowing what their next steps will be and without the correct academic and social preparation to be successful in their chosen path.
No school can successfully provide for young people without the support of parents, carers, and governors. At Hummersknott, all of these groups are committed to helping the school achieve the best possible education for our young people. These will continue to be relationships that we treasure and develop as we continue our journey. It’s great to work with you all!
